Project Highlight

Project Spotlight: Floating Pool Lady

Among the team’s current assignments is providing support for the inspection of a unique piece of New York City civic infrastructure: The Floating Pool Lady. This unusual (and unusually named) facility is a half Olympic-size public swimming pool, built into a barge. It is moored at Barretto Point Park, on the Bronx’s East River shoreline, and provides recreational swimming opportunities for the Hunts Point neighborhood and surrounding communities.

Project Spotlight: Rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge

The Brooklyn Bridge is both a New York City icon and a critical piece of the city’s day-to-day infrastructure. A National Historic Landmark, it was the first bridge to span the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn, and at the time of its construction it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge is widely recognized for the timeless aesthetic appeal of its neo-Gothic stone arches and elaborate masonry.

Project Spotlight: Queensboro Bridge Upper Roadway Replacement

EnTech is providing REI services for this $353 million project, which will install lightweight orthotropic decking to reduce the overall dead load and extend the service life of the bridge. The firm is monitoring contractor operations, performing daily quality and safety inspections, providing office engineering and project controls services, and reviewing change orders, cost estimates, and payments.

EnTech Completes First Green Infrastructure Contract with NHSA

EnTech is proud to announce that it has recently completed its first project as a prime consultant with the North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA). The green infrastructure project involved the construction of 10 right-of-way bioswales along Park Avenue in Weehawken and West New York, NJ. Work included removal and replacement of existing sidewalks and curbs, installation of green infrastructure elements, and landscaping. EnTech, as the REI consultant, planned and coordinated construction and monitored contractor work.

Renovated Bath Beach Park Playground Opens to Public

EnTech recently celebrated the opening of the Bath Beach Park playground, in Brooklyn, following a $5 million renovation. EnTech served as the construction manager for the project, which replaced a dilapidated playground and asphalt field with a new playground and fitness area. The project included new lighting, plantings for shade and aesthetics, drinking fountains, water supply, drainage, curbs, safety surfacing, and fencing.

Celebrating the Opening of Grand Central Madison

EnTech has welcomed the recent opening of Grand Central Madison, a new rail terminal underneath the historic Grand Central Terminal. This expansive new facility brings Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) commuter service to Manhattan’s East Side for the first time, greatly increasing train capacity to and from Manhattan and reducing commute lengths for more than 100,000 commuters daily.

NYC Wastewater Resiliency Program CM

EnTech is providing construction management and inspection services for this crucial program throughout the construction phase at six WRRFs: Hunts Point, in the Bronx; Newtown Creek, in Brooklyn; Bowery Bay and Tallman Island, in Queens; Port Richmond, in Staten Island; and Wards Island, in the East River. Together these six facilities serve 4.2 million New Yorkers.

EnTech REI Team Celebrates Completion of Major Water Infrastructure Project

EnTech recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of QED991, a major water main and sewer upgrade project for the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC), in northeastern Queens. EnTech, in joint venture, led REI services for this $78 million project, which installed more than 7 miles of trunk main, distribution water main, and combined sewer.

Riverside Drive Viaduct Rehabilitation

EnTech’s REI team is currently at work on a crucial roadway project in Upper Manhattan: the rehabilitation of the Riverside Drive Viaduct. This 78-span elevated structure carries six lanes of traffic between West 153rd and West 161st streets. A historically significant structure, whose first segment was built in 1908, it offers scenic views of the Hudson River and the New Jersey Palisades. The viaduct forms part of an exceptionally dense network of civil infrastructure—Amtrak’s Empire Line runs directly underneath one segment of the viaduct, and numerous masonry and high-rise buildings abut the viaduct’s eastern side.

EnTech REI Team Hosts NYCDDC and NYCDEP Commissioners

EnTech recently hosted a visit by the commissioners of the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) and New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), as well as other city officials, at the Vernon Boulevard location of NYCDDC project QED1050, which entails the installation of distribution water main. The commissioners were pleased with the progress that EnTech’s team had made in a short period of time, especially considering the extensive underground utility interferences in the area.

Admin Teams Tour Grand Concourse Field Site in the Bronx

Amir Asem, Resident Engineer, recently led a tour of the Grand Concourse Reconstruction field site for EnTech office staff. The visit afforded members of EnTech’s Talent Acquisition, Office Administration, Contract, and Human Resources departments a chance to learn more about EnTech’s involvement on this major NYCDDC project. For many, this was their first time being on an active project site, providing them with an introduction to various trades and an understanding of the amount of coordination and supervision needed to ensure the success of this $61M project.

Painting and Protecting Bridges Across the Hudson Valley

EnTech’s transportation CM staff is overseeing an important project to clean and paint deteriorating surfaces on 15 steel roadway bridges across six counties in the Hudson Valley region. The project will protect the bridges against corroding effects of the environment, acid rain, and deicing agents. The project also involves abatement of asbestos-containing material, lead-based paint, and lead-containing concrete coating.

Infrastructure Week Spotlight: EnTech Overseeing Upgrades to the Madison Avenue Bridge
