Last week, EnTech joined elected officials, community representatives, and leaders from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) to celebrate the grand opening of the 132nd Street Roadway Extension, in the College Point neighborhood of northern Queens. EnTech provided resident engineering services for the successful project, as a subconsultant to Gilbane, on the CM team.

The new 0.7-mile roadway, which extends 132nd Street from 20th Avenue to 23rd Avenue, is a priority transportation improvement to alleviate congestion and improve road conditions throughout the College Point Corporate Park area. Construction included new sidewalks, street trees, streetlights, and traffic signals. The project also included the restoration of 12 acres of wetlands adjacent to the new roadway, on the undeveloped site of the former Flushing Airport.

The project is a game-changer for residents and businesses of College Point. It provides a much-needed additional access point from the Whitestone Expressway, helping to relieve congestion on local streets and improve traffic flow throughout the neighborhood. But the benefits go beyond transportation, as the project includes major upgrades to the area’s water infrastructure—new water mains, storm sewers, fire hydrants, and improved drainage. These enhancements not only improve water distribution and fire safety but also address longstanding flooding issues by effectively directing stormwater into nearby wetlands, keeping it off streets and away from homes and businesses.
With these improvements, the 132nd Street Extension is not just a new road but an important step forward in making College Point safer, more connected, and better equipped for the future.
